2024 AAAA Year in Review: Reflecting on a Year of Progress, Partnerships, and Purpose

As 2024 comes to a close, we at the African American Automotive Association (AAAA) take a moment to reflect on an incredible year filled with progress, impactful partnerships, and purpose-driven initiatives. Thanks to your continued support and belief in our mission, we have made significant strides in empowering underserved communities across the nation. Here are some highlights from an extraordinary year:

This year, we proudly welcomed a new and dynamic board of directors who are deeply committed to advancing AAAA's mission. Their diverse expertise and passion have strengthened our ability to drive change and create opportunities within the automotive and motorsports industries. Moreover, they have brought valuable resources from outside the automotive sector to support our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts. This unique blend of perspectives has amplified our impact and broadened the reach of our initiatives.

In addition to welcoming new leadership, we established a new scholarship fund in memory of Reyana Lobban, a young woman whose life was tragically cut short while pursuing her passion for the automotive industry. This scholarship will empower future generations to chase their dreams in the automotive world, ensuring that her legacy continues to inspire and create opportunities for others.

Building on this momentum, we hosted one of the most fulfilling events of the year: All-American Week at Fort Liberty. In collaboration with the Veterans Trust, US Drift Circuit, the U.S. Army, and other organizations, we used motorsports to provide members of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division with a much-needed mental and physical reprieve. This remarkable event fostered meaningful connections, allowing servicemen and women to bond with their families, create cherished memories, and experience moments of joy. We look forward to building upon this extraordinary event in 2025. Click here to watch highlights from the festivities!

Our efforts to expand education also saw remarkable growth through our partnership with Williams Esports, the Esports component of the Williams Racing Formula 1 team. This collaboration elevated our STEAM education curriculum by integrating an exciting esports component. This innovative addition enables students to explore the world of motorsports through a virtual platform, breaking down barriers and making the industry more accessible to underserved communities. By blending education, competition, and fun, this initiative is redefining how we teach and create opportunities for the next generation of leaders.

Furthering our commitment to inspiring creativity, we partnered with local organizations and our sister company, Taste of Tech, to invite inner-city Detroit students to design custom vehicle wraps that were displayed at the 2024 SEMA Show. These designs, showcasing the students' creativity and talent, received global recognition in publications such as Motortrend and Hot Rod Magazine. This initiative highlighted the immense potential within our youth and the value of providing them with platforms to shine.

Our focus on fostering community connections was further demonstrated through our collaboration with Force Indy Race Team and NXG Youth Motorsports at the Indy Grand Prix. We organized an unforgettable trip to support Myles Rowe, a rising star in motorsports. Attendees from across the country joined local fans in cheering for Myles and the Force Indy team. Participants enjoyed exclusive behind-the-scenes access, a visit to the team garage, and the excitement of watching exhibition races with NXG Youth Motorsports. Meeting racing legend Willy T. Ribbs was a standout moment, inspiring attendees with his trailblazing legacy and unwavering determination. This event exemplified our commitment to connecting communities with the rich culture of motorsports.

Additionally, AAAA founder Christopher Harris continues to represent our mission on some of the industry's most influential platforms. As an inaugural member of the SEMA DEI Committee and an Advisory Council Member for the newly launched HPX Expo, Chris ensures that we have an unapologetic champion of DEI at the table with some of the industry's biggest decision-makers. His dedication reinforces our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in every aspect of the automotive and motorsports world.

This year also marked the announcement of our 2024 Hall of Fame inductees. This dynamic list of individuals has not only positively impacted the automotive industry but has also championed DEI in their own unique ways. By celebrating their achievements, we highlight their invaluable contributions and inspire others to continue driving change within the industry.

As we close out 2024, we are filled with gratitude for the progress we’ve made and excitement for the opportunities ahead. With your continued support, we look forward to building on this momentum, creating even greater impact, and furthering our mission to empower underserved communities through the automotive and motorsports industries. Here’s to another year of progress and purpose!
